Africa Is not Destined to Die: Signs of Hope and Renewal
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON AFRICA (10th Jan to 14th Jan 2011)
"The Jubilee in Marginalised Africa Today"
Ten years ago, from the 1-6 May 2000, an international consultation with the theme: "The Jubilee in Marginalised Africa Today" was convened at Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi, Uganda. The main thrust of this jubilee gathering was to address different theological and other themes at the occasion of celebrating the Jubilee Year 2000. The proceedings of that international consultation were edited by Peter Kanyandago and published by Pauline Publications Africa in 2002, as "Marginalised Africa: An International Perspective".
On the occasion of celebrating 10 years of that great event, The Centre for African Christian Studies (CACISA) Kampala, UGANDA in conjunction with Nijmegen Institute of Mission Studies (NIM) of Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands, and the Catholic Theological Faculties of St. Mary’s National Seminary Ggaba, St. Mbaaga’s Major seminary Ggaba and St. Paul’s Seminary, Kinyamasika, have organised an International Theological Conference to review the jubilee consultation and its theme, the events that have taken place in Africa thereafter, especially the continued numerical growth of the church in Africa, the celebration of Second Special Assembly for Africa of the Synod of Bishops of 2009, and the contemporary general picture of Africa as a continent.
The theme of this forthcoming international conference is: "Africa Is not Destined to Die: Signs of Hope and Renewal." The conference aims at addressing the continued lamentation and self-pity on the continent and seeks to identify and promote what is positive dimension in Africa as the very source of her energy for regeneration and as a true sign for a new hope for herself, humanity and the entire world. Papers are called from theologians and scholars to address the above theme. The conference will take place at National Seminary, Ggaba, Kampala Kampala, Uganda from the 11th – 13th January 2011. Arrival will be 10th January 2011 and departure will be 14th January 2011.
